B-9 : The Birthday Bash
After the obligatory breakfast run, the lights were dimmed and the safeties were off.
First up:
Unreal Tournament 3
With everyone running, bouncing and fragging the first tournament set off at 100 mph. The leader board changed dramatically with players catching headshots and the odd missile.Hitman flexed his FPS muscles but over the course of the rounds surprising consistency caused BOFH to take the lead.Nick_B seized the opportunity to field a ringer (using the excuse of videoing the event) increasing his score and moving him away from his usual fight for the wooden spoon.
1st Place: BOFH
2nd Place: Hitman
3rd Place: Chairless
Grid Racedriver
The track was hot and the competition was hotter! The Flowerpot men (Bo & Ben) started out with their usual aggressive no mercy style of driving, skilfully smashing the competition into walls and spinning them off the track. They both headed to the front leaving the rest of us playing a catch up game.
The race between the 2 front runners was intense each of them passing the other and taking the lead at different sectors of the track! In the end Bo managed to edge the lead and take 1st place!
1st Place: BOFH
2nd Place: Munsen
3rd Place: Nick_B
Tekken 5
In a brief respite from the intense PC tournaments, the PS3 took over as 1-on-1 combat was played out on the projector screen. Button bashing was the order of the day. As our weekend warriors fell by the wayside leaving 4 to thrash out the top 3 places. In the 1st Semi-Final Wax took on Ben and with some very interesting combo’s Wax pummelled his way into the Final. The 2nd Semi-Final saw R3p & Iamthingfish fighting each other for the 3rd time during the day. Deft use of the leg sweep took R3p into the final.
With our current beat ‘em up Champion trying to hold onto the title, this became a very one sided affair as Wax powered through R3p for a 3-0 win.
1st Place: Wax
2nd Place: R3plica
3rd Place: Ben
Call of Duty 4
By this point in the day the Hitman had warmed up his mouse and was ready to show everyone who is boss. With everyone available jumping onto the servers the bullets were flying. It was very apparent that a lot of players had been putting in a bit of practice and we saw some very impressive shots from a few surprising players, but in the end the 3 times champion regained his title in impressive form.
1st Place: Hitman
2nd Place: Emex
3rd Place: Gharak
Command & conquer Generals: Zero Hour
1v1 matches started out with no 10 rush for 10 minutes and no super weapons.
Lewis and Rob quickly showed everyone that they weren’t playing games and annihilated their opponents.
Nick_B and Bo battled it out, Nick managed to fend of Bo’s attacks but eventually Bo was just to powerful and managed to over run Nick’s base.
The final was a 3 way fight. Bo, Rob and Lewis engaged in battle.
The time limit was 30 minutes and at the end of the time scores were taken.
Rob was the clear winner and was just over 10,000 points ahead of Lew.
1st Place: Rob
2nd Place: Lew
3rd Place: BOFH
B-9 event final
The Painalympics was used as the final champions’ battle and on the projector
BOFH, Rob, Hitman and Wax battled it out, in a series of strange events.
Round 1: Wax Vs BOFH – Balloony Bin
Showing no ability at all Wax managed to pip BOFH in a low scoring game.
Round 2: Rob Vs Ollie – Stack Whacker
Again more down to luck than talent, due to a few stray shots from Rob, Ollie progressed through to the final.
Grand Final: Wax Vs Ollie – Relay Race
Bitch slapping the on screen avatar became the name of the game. With Ollie first up he managed to pass the baton to his 2nd leg before falling off the track and being disqualified. All Wax need to do was get his 2nd leg player to the second corner to win… he failed to get to the 2nd leg as he over shot and was disqualified…
Hitman proved to us all that his gaming talents extended beyond the realm of FPS and fended off the competition and reclaimed the B-series champion title once again!
As this was the B-series 1st birthday we had some special awards to hand out.
Gamer of the year
This was an award for the most consistent gamer throughout the last 12 months.
The award went to the 3 times event champion Hitman
Most improved gamer
This award was in recognition of the overall improvement of his gaming skills.
12 months ago he was at the bottom of the score lists but is now winning tournaments.
The award went to BOFH
Wooden spoon of the year
This award was to recognise the consistent inability of this player throughout the last 12 months to get above last place in each tournament. This popular choice went to the one and only Nick C (aka: the Gimp) who gracefully accepted his award to riotous applause and cheers.
As Local Bits Ltd has sponsored the B-series from the start a bottle of Champaign was presented to the company owner Bo Pedersen.
To celebrate our 1st birthday obligatory massive chocolate birthday cake was unveiled for all to enjoy!!
Well done to everyone who took part!.
